A review of security surveillance footage helped lead to the murder suspect's arrest on Wednesday, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Police Chief Joseph Wysocki.

Frederic Boyd has been charged with first-degree murder and several weapons charges, they said.

Police were called to Boyd’s apartment on the 1200 block of Chestnut St. about 8 p.m. on Dec. 26 for a reported shooting, Mayer and Wycocki said.

The victim, Darrell Matthews, 46, of Camden, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, they said.

During the investigation, police located surveillance footage that showed Boyd leaving the apartment shortly after the shooting and traveling to an area nearby. When investigators searched that area, they located a handgun.

Boyd was arrested on Wednesday the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division in Mount Holly.

He was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
